Primrose Hill, NW1, is one of the loveliest places in London to live, and the hill itself is a beautiful, well-kept park that’s lovely for a walk with your own dog. So why does our dog walking in Primrose Hill start with a short drive? Because your dog deserves a change of scene too. Here’s how our Primrose Hill dog walkers work, where the group goes and what it costs.
A change of scene for Primrose Hill dogs
If your dog’s everyday walks are on Primrose Hill or in Regent’s Park, a weekday walk on Hampstead Heath gives them a whole new set of smells to explore. New paths, woodland, open grass and a small group of friends to share it with make for a very different hour from the usual loop. Your dog comes home with plenty to think about, and the hill is still there for your own walks together in the evening and at weekends.
It also means your dog gets proper ground for a group walk. On Hampstead Heath, every one of our walkers holds a Hampstead Heath licence from the City of London, and groups there are never more than four dogs.
Our dog walkers in Primrose Hill
Two walkers look after our Primrose Hill dogs, and the one you get depends on what your dog needs.
Ashley heads for the Hampstead Heath Extension when a dog needs to stretch out: long clear sight lines, room to run flat out and stay in view. He’s been with us four years. Clients warm to him straight away, and he’s quick with photos and videos from the walk.
Jack takes the wired ones onto the dense, wooded West Heath. His West Heath is the wilder end of Hampstead Heath, left far more natural, with a circular path to follow or trees to dive into, and far fewer people up there too. Jack has been with us six years, and he’s the calm centre we want every group to have.
Your dog has the same walker every time. If they’re ever away, cover comes from inside the team, from someone who already knows your dog.
How Primrose Hill dog walking works, morning or afternoon
Primrose Hill has both of our rounds:
- Morning walk: your walker arrives in Primrose Hill around half nine. You don’t need to be in, because we hold your key. Your dog is home, settled, about an hour and a half later.
- Afternoon walk: after the morning round, your walker comes back to Primrose Hill around midday, and your dog is home again around 1:30.
Either way, your dog gets a full hour of actual walking on Hampstead Heath. The drive isn’t counted in it. Every van has crates so each dog travels securely in its own space, with air conditioning running through to the back, so dogs stay warm in winter and cool in summer.
Keys carry your dog’s name, never your address, and outside working hours they’re kept securely at Warren’s house. During the walk you’ll get a WhatsApp with a video of your dog in action and who they’ve been running around with today. You can read the whole thing step by step in what happens on a dog walk with us.
A calm group, every walk
Every dog has an energy scale. Zero is fast asleep by the radiator, ten is absolutely wired. We aim to have your dog out at a three or a four, letting them jump up to an eight to play and then bringing them back down. A dog at that level meets other dogs, children and runners calmly, which is exactly what you want on a busy day on Hampstead Heath.
That’s why we don’t throw tennis balls. A ball creates competition, and we’d rather the group spent the hour sniffing, exploring and enjoying each other’s company. Our walks are made for friendly dogs who love other dogs, and for nervous dogs who just need a little time to find their feet.
What a Primrose Hill owner gets for £25 a walk
- collection from your door and drop-off afterwards, with no need for you to be in,
- a full hour of walking on Hampstead Heath, never less,
- a small, well-matched group with the same walker every time,
- a WhatsApp video from every walk,
- a notification in our app when your dog is home,
- a business with £2m insurance, and walkers trained by Warren and police checked.
We ask for a minimum of two walks a week on average. It doesn’t have to be exactly the same each week, but regular walks are what let your dog settle into the group. All our walks are group walks.
Daycare from Primrose Hill
For dogs who need more than an hour out, our doggy daycare gives your dog something different again: four hours in the Secret Woodland we’re lucky enough to use. Streams, bracken and muntjac deer slipping off through the undergrowth. Daycare is run 100% by Warren. He collects from Primrose Hill between about 8:30 and 9:30, drives around 40 minutes out, sends WhatsApp videos during the day and drops your dog home between 3:00 and 4:00. It’s £55 a day, including pickup and drop-off. If you’d like a feel for it, read what a good day of dog daycare looks like.
